Gullfoss
The powerful and mighty waterfall Gullfoss is one of the best know waterfalls in Iceland and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland. It is located in the river Hvítá which source is from Langjökull glacier. The waterfall is 32 meter high and runs in a canyon which looks like a 2 steps staircase. Gullfoss is a part of the Golden Circle tour which is a very popular tour among travelers.

Skógafoss
Skógafoss waterfall is often considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. Its source is Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. The famous hike tour Fimmvörðuháls starts at Skógafoss.
The myth says that a man called Þrasi hid a chest of treasures behind the waterfall. In the 16th century, two men tried to get the treasure chest, they managed to get a grip of the chest‘s handle but it losened from the chest. The handle is now on Skógar church door.
Geysir
Geysir is a spouting hot spring which has the past years stopped for years at a time, the eruption is infrequent and unsuspected. When it erupts, the water spouts up to 70 meters. The hot springs have existed for over 10.000 years and earthquakes in the area, influence the behaviour of geysers. The great Geysir area is definitely a place to visit, a lot of boiling water and what is the most popular sight, Strokkur. Strokkur is a geyser like Geysir, but just a bit smaller. It can spout up to 60 meters.
Skaftafell
Skaftafell National park is situated in the south of Iceland, next to Öræfajökull which is a part of Vatnajökull glacier. The forest, the glacier and the sand meet in Skaftafell. This is one of the most spectacular places in Iceland and very popular among Icelandic people as well as tourists. Walk up to the waterfall Svartifoss, touch the glacier and sleep in a tent or at the hotel in Skaftafell. It doesn‘t get better than this.
Thingvellir / Þingvellir
Þingvellir is a protected national shrine and is a property of the Icelandic nation. Þingvellir was declared a national park in the early 19 hundreds in order to preserve the remains of the old parliament, and later the fantastic nature at Þingvellir. The Icelandic parliament, Alþingi, was established at Thingvellir in 930. The largest lake in Iceland, Þingvallavatn, is at Þingvellir.
Thingvellir is on the World Heritage List, since it is considered to have an outstanding universal value and as such should form part of the common heritage of humankind.

Blue Lagoon / Bláa Lónið
The Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited places in Iceland. It is a geothermal spa and it is a wonderful place to visit with its beautiful surroundings. The mud which comes from the lagoon is considered to help people who are suffering from skin deseases or very dry skin, is available to guests of the lagoon. The water is around 40 degrees celcius (around 104 degrees F) on average.

Reykjavík
Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland, situated in the southwest Iceland. Only around 200 thousand people live in the great Reykjavik. It is a beautiful and clean city with a low crime rate. In downtown Reykjavik, you will find historical houses, the parliament Althingi, museums, restaurants, shops, bars etc. Laugavegur is the main shopping street, crowded with Icelandic design. Þórsmörk is a mountain ridge, situated between two glaciers, Tindafjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. To get to Þórsmörk, you would need to pass the glacier river Krossá. Only jeeps and buses can get across. Þórsmörk is a great place for hikers and for those who want to enjoy nature at its best.

Northern Lights
In the wintertime in Iceland, you could be so lucky to see the Northern Lights in all its glory. It is a spectacular phenomenom which which will take your breath away. The Northern lights can be seen from September through April on clear nights. The Northern lights can be spotted in Reykjavik, but it is probably better to drive a bit into the country from all the citylights to get a better and clearer view.

Snæfellsnes /Snaefellsnes
Snæfellsnes is a peninsula, around 100 kilometers from the capital of Iceland. It is a beautiful and magical place with mountain range, beaches, small fishing villages and the Snæfellsjökull glacier. Snæfellsjökull is an old volcano and a very famous one, since some people believe that the Snæfellsjökull could be the entrance to the center of the earth.
In 1991, a lot of people gathered around the glacier on the 5th of November to welcome the aliens who were assumed to arrive on earth on that day. No aliens showed up and some people stated that the reason of their „no show“ was all the media attention, and therefore they panicked.
