Day 2After breakfast, join the tour
AH12 The Golden Circle Classic which is a must see in Iceland.
This popular excursion introduces you to some of the best known historical sites and natural phenomena in Iceland.
We start by visiting Nesjavellir, a high temperature geothermal area in the scenic landscape of Lake Þingvallavatn. From there we go to the Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was founded in the year 930 AD. Þingvellir is geologically remarkable and the tectonic plate boundaries form a breathtaking scenery.
We continue to the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, where we can walk so close to the edge that we might feel the mist of the glacial water on our faces.
Our lunchbreak is usually at the Gullfoss Cafe. Sometimes we also stop for lunch at the Information Center at the geothermal area around Geysir. From there we journey towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. We proceed to Skálholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops. From there we travel towards Hveragerði, a small and charming horticultural village.
Due to weather and road conditions we cannot guarantee visits to Nesjavellir in the winter season.
Day 3
Northern Lights Hunt - Winter Super Jeep Day Tour in Iceland
Evening super jeep tour including lava caving, lobster dinner and northern lights chase to a convenient location.
Trip difficulty 2 out of 5 possible. Rated: Easy.
Your pick up will arrive at your hotel in the shape of an enormous Super-jeep with an expert guide at the wheel. The search for the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) is on! We start by exploring the hidden world in and under the lava field located in the Blue Mountains only 25 minutes’ drive from Reykjavik. Walking down into the lava cave and discovering the marvels that volcanic activity has created in the past is a trip that everyone can undertake and enjoy. On your underworld adventure you will see the magical rock formations left behind in the last volcanic eruption and in winter the cave is likely to be filled with glistening icicles of all shapes and sizes, a sight not soon forgotten.
After our underground adventure we head on to Rauda Husid restaurant in Eyrarbakki village on the south coast where a two course dinner (350 gr. lobster and dessert) is waiting for us. Rauda husid is one of Iceland’s most renowned seafood restaurants especially famous for its lobster dinner, located 60 km from Reykjavik surrounded by the pitch-black Icelandic winter night. From there our hunt continues.
The Auroras can only be seen far away from the city lights and from Eyrarbakki we will not have to travel far until the mountains provide the shadows we need. On cloudless and clear winter evenings, with luck on our side, we may be able to spot this beautiful and elusive natural phenomenon. Vivid and bright, the dancing northern lights in the Arctic skies are a sight to remember.
Please note: Seeing the Northern Lights is highly dependent on weather conditions and we reserve the right to cancel if the circumstances are not in your favor.
